Year 12 student Taka Sugiyama was the sole representative from Otago Boys' High School at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Swimming Champanships held in Auckland last weekend.
Taka kicked off the competition with impressive energy, maintaining close to his personal best times throughout the event. His dedication was evident in his performances:
In the 400m Freestyle, Taka made a significant impact by slicing 7.92 seconds off his entry time, finishing 7th in the 16 year old age group.
He excelled in the 200m Breaststroke, where he moved up to 9th place, improving on his entry position.
In the 50m Breaststroke, Taka finished 15th, a minor drop from his entry but still a commendable effort.
The 100m Breaststroke saw him rise to 10th place, gaining one spot from his entry time.
Taka also took on the 100m Butterfly, a new challenge for him, and finished 24th.
While Taka was hoping for a strong finish in his final race, he was slightly disappointed with his 10th place in the 100m Freestyle, as it fell outside his entry time.
Looking ahead, Taka is gearing up for the NZ Short Course Championships later in August, where he aims to build on his experiences and improve his results.
Well done on your outstanding performance Taka!
