Introducing our Deputy Rector - School Culture

We would like to introduce and welcome Mr Nic Sullivan to our school community.

Kia ora I am Nic Sullivan.

I am privileged to join the history and tradition of Otago Boys’ High School as the Deputy Rector of School Culture. I am extremely passionate about boys’ education and have worked in boys’ schools in New Zealand for the past 13 years. I sincerely believe that boys do better in boys’ education, and I am excited to be working in one of New Zealand’s prestigious boys schools.

Originally hailing from the Greymouth on the West Coast, I first moved to Dunedin to study at the University of Otago. I completed a BA Hons in History and then moved into the College of Education to train as a Secondary School teacher. I started my teaching career at Westlake Boys' High School on Auckland’s North Shore, working as a Dean, teaching across the Social Sciences and coaching Basketball. My wife and I made the move back to Dunedin, where I have worked in various roles at King’s High School. After working as an Assistant Principal at King’s for the past 5 years, I have now made the shift across town and up the hill to Otago Boys’.

I have thoroughly enjoyed settling back into Dunedin over the past several years, and making it home with my wife Lucy and our three young children, Thea, Max and Lottie. Dunedin is a great place to raise a family and we make the most of all the opportunities it holds. I enjoy spending time outside of school skiing, snowboarding and mountain biking.

I look forward to working with students, staff and whānau in continuing a strong legacy and helping shape the fine school culture of Otago Boys’.
