Gateway Placement 2024 - Jack Tisdall

My Gateway placement is at Otago Tractors Repairs which is located out in Mosgiel.

I chose Otago Tractors Repairs to get some experience and more of an understanding of how to repair farm equipment. 

Every Friday I start at 8.00am and finish at 5.00pm. I have the opportunity to interact with customers both out on the field, at someone's farm or when they come into the shop.

The staff are great to work alongside with. I'm either working with someone or independently on a task that I have been set. The range of skills/knowledge I have gained are:

• WOF inspection of a trailer 

• Fitting a tyre tube

• Wheel bearings and brake pads 

• How free a tyre should be 

• Putting together small mowers that go on the back of a tractor and log splitters.

Gateway is a great opportunity to undertake in Year 12 or Year 13.
