This year’s production of Legally Blonde has just come to a close after an incredible show season filled with talent and fun!
The production ran for four nights from Wednesday the 19th to Saturday the 22nd, and showcased all of the cast's hard work since the very start of this year. We have had consistent practices three days a week singing, dancing and acting, refining our performances. So, to finally give it our all on stage was a rewarding and fun experience!
This show is also our best selling Otago Boys' and Otago Girls' production yet, with Saturday nights performance being completely sold out! The show was a smash hit amongst everyone that saw it and we have had countless raving reviews. We want to thank everyone that came to support the show this year and we greatly appreciate all of the nice comments we have received.
Legally Blonde is a Broadway musical that follows sorority president Elle Woods as she ventures to Harvard law school to get back the love of her life. The show is filled with lots of funny and charming moments and had many featuring roles and one-liners, so various Otago Boys' students got to have their moment in the spotlight on stage. Our featured leads this year were Lachie Hall playing the hardworking and kind Emmett Forrest, Mikko Johnston playing Elle’s ex boyfriend Warner Huntington III, Oliver MacKenzie playing Professor Callahan and Bradley Escueta playing the iconic roles of Kyle O’Boyle the UPS guy and Grandmaster Chad. We also saw incredible performances from Rohan Williams playing Carlos, Rupene Skipper playing Nikos and Sundeep Padamadan, Dallas Pankhurst playing Elle’s Dad and Carlin Summerfield playing Aaron Schultz. The boys involved in the ensemble for this year were Mason McCreanor, Savelli Karpov, Nathan Lau, Enoch Park, Kade Robbie and Ethan Smith. Everyone put in tons of effort to deliver the best possible performance, and were all amazing in each of their roles. We also had a lot of help backstage, organising and creating props, assisting with lighting and sound cues, opening and managing doors and helping maintain set pieces.
The show this year was managed and produced by Charlotte Hayward, directed by Danielle Veenvliet, with our vocal coach Anna Langford and our choreographer Steph Madson.
We are also excited to announce that the production for next year is Grease, so if you are interested in being a part of another great production there is another opportunity. I highly encourage you to give it a go and step out of your comfort zone, as production offers an exhilarating experience and creates many fun memories.
Again, thank you for the overwhelming support for the show this year, and it is great to see so much enthusiasm for production in the school!
