Through Gateway this year I have had the privilege of working with Farra Engineering every Friday. This has allowed me to experience and learn new skills.
Every time I go, I learn something new which will be helpful for the future if I start a career in the industry.
I worked in the sheet metal workshop for the first three weeks, and am currently working in the heavy fabrication department. I am working in a team environment where I learn how to read plans and construct heavy fabrication projects. The next opportunity I have is in the machining workshop where I will develop skills and knowledge in this department of Farra Engineering.
I have gained many skills such as welding, grinding, measuring, Health and Safety in and around the workshop, interpreting texts and symbols on a plan to construct a project and much more. I am hoping to experience the skills and knowledge required to start out as an apprentice.
