Gateway Placement 2024 - Luke Marsh

One of the opportunities I decided to take up this year was the Gateway programme.

The Gateway programme allows me to go out on work experience for one day a week.

I have found Gateway the perfect option as I was already interested in plumbing, and Gateway has given me the opportunity to see if this is for me. 

I’ve been working in domestic households and have been involved in various home renovations across Dunedin where I've worked with different people, learning new skills from them all. The people I've been working with have taught me how to successfully cut out and install new pipes, fix leaks, and how to install things like basins and toilets. I’ve also been working with gasfitters where I've learnt how to find and fix gas leaks and help fix gas fires and stovetops. 

I am really enjoying my time on Gateway placement and see a career in plumbing as a future possibility.
