Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa - Samoa Language Week (26 May - 1 June)

Talofa lava. This week we celebrated Samoa Language Week at school.

Over the course of the week we have learned some Samoan songs, learned about some aspects of Samoan culture, and shared some delicious food.

On Wednesday Mr. Malu led the boys in a sasa, teaching them about the meaning of the movements and keeping them in sync with each other with his fantastic drumming.

On Thursday we had a shared lunch featuring some yummy Samoan dishes. Many thanks to the boys and their families who contributed some food. It was a good opportunity to talk, to celebrate, and also to serve each other. A saying that we have shared over the week is “O le ala ile pule, o le tautua”, which means “The road to leadership is through service”.

Today at lunchtime we will wrap up the week by watching the film “3 Wise Cousins” in the library, to send us into the long weekend.

I want to thank everyone who contributed to our celebration this week. Special thanks go to Mr. Malu for his leadership and organisation of the boys. Huge thanks also to those who contributed to our shared lunch. Finally, thanks so much to those boys who came along to join in.

Fa’afetai tele lava.
