Director of Boarding appointed

Rector Richard Hall is excited to welcome Mr John Hedges as our new Director of Boarding. John brings with him a wealth of experience and a real passion for working with young people. His experience in the NZ Police and more recently as a teacher has led him to here.

I am excited about my new role as the Director of Boarding at Otago Boys' High School. I am married to Nicole and have a daughter Hannah (23) and a son Sam (21). 

In my previous career, I was a Police Officer for 28 years holding various ranks in Investigation, Response, and Prevention roles. Recently I obtained a Graduate Diploma in Teaching and for the past 2 1/2 years have been teaching at an Intermediate school level. 

I believe in the power of collaboration between home and school, and I look forward to partnering with you to support your son’s growth and success. I enjoy helping people achieve and feel connected to school, culture, sport, family, and community. These connections help build purpose and structure so important in our day-to-day lives. My start date is the 22nd of July and I will then be able to begin meeting you at the many upcoming sporting, cultural, and academic events.
