Our School Board is excited to welcome Mr John Hedges as our new Director of Boarding. John brings with him a wealth of experience and a real passion for working with young people. His experiences in the NZ Police and more recently as a teacher have led him to here.
John's working life has been dedicated to empowering young people, and young men to being the best they can be, As a serving Police Officer for 28 years holding various ranks in Investigation, Response, and Prevention roles, John understands young people and how a positive influence is important in their lives. Since obtaining a Graduate Diploma in Teaching he has for the past 2 1/2 years been teaching at an intermediate school level.
John believes in the power of collaboration between home and school, and looks forward to partnering with you to support your son’s growth and success. He enjoys helping people achieve. John already feels connected to school, the culture, the sport, and community having had his son attend our school. John's aim is to use connections to help build purpose and structure which is so important in our day-to-day lives.
John is married to Nicole and has a daughter Hannah (23) and a son Sam (21).
OBHS School Rector, Mr Richard Hall is excited to have John start next term. 'The process has been longer than we initially intended, but it was vital for both the school and the hostel that we got the right person. The process has been rigorous and in Mr Hedges, I believe we have found the best candidate'.
John will meet many of the boys tonight at dinner and we will look to introduce him to the community at the start of Term 3.
