This year our very own school team took part in the Relay for Life 2024 event held by the Cancer Society during the holidays.
This was a community led event run by the Cancer Society to build funds and awareness to aid our fight with cancer.
Relay for Life is one of the ways in which our community has the ability to help the Cancer Society, aiding many people battling this disease. All funds we made as a school go towards helping others. Whether it’s through services such as transport and accommodation for cancer patients, to groundbreaking cancer research.
Roughly 15400 New Zealanders are diagnosed with cancer every year (or 71 a day), and 10488 die from the disease in the same time frame, so the money raised will help a lot of people!
I wanted to say a huge thank you to our team as well. Our dedicated crew of teachers, staff, coaches, parents, and most of all students, gave up their time in the school holidays to participate, and only had three weeks to fundraise. I'm proud to say we came 7th out of all the teams who took part in the Dunedin relay.
