A Message from the Rector

Welcome back to school!

It is fantastic to have everyone back at school this week. I hope everyone had the opportunity to get some time with family over the two week break. The boys have certainly started in a positive and purposeful way, long may it continue.

The value this term is courage, a word that I think is often misjudged. At the start of the term, in our full school assembly, I spoke about the value of courage and what I think it means in connection to teenage boys.

For teenage boys daring to navigate the unpredictable journey of life, courage isn't just a word; it's the guiding force propelling you forward, pushing them beyond their comfort zone into the realm of possibility. Courage isn't the absence of fear but the triumph over it, the will to confront adversity head-on, knowing that greatness lies just beyond the horizon.

I think that in moments of doubt, remember that courage isn't measured by the absence of obstacles, but by your willingness to face them, to stand tall. It's about believing in yourself when others doubt you, about daring to chase your dreams even when the odds seem insurmountable.

Courage isn't about being fearless; it's about acknowledging your fears and pressing onward despite them. It's about taking risks, embracing challenges, and refusing to let setbacks define you. It's about understanding that failure is not the end but a stepping stone towards growth and success.

Every boy can be courageous this term, from something as simple as answering, or even better, asking a question in a class, through to challenging and changing an unhealthy habit, we can all do it and often starting small is the best way.

Enjoy the weekend.
