We will be again running senior Wananga Days in weeks 5 and 6 of this term.
“Wānanga traditionally conveys meanings related to highly evolved knowledge and forums, in the sense of having a discussion to arrive at a deeper understanding.”
The rationale for Wananga Days is to support our senior student learning, particularly in subjects that are disadvantaged by a one-hour timetable. It will provide an opportunity for students to focus on one subject without having to transition throughout the day and allows the opportunity for teachers to plan longer activities that enrich students learning without disrupting other classes.
Teachers have begun planning for these days and will be discussing these with their students in the coming weeks.
Year 9 and 10 classes will pretty much run as normal during the 6 Wananga Days, although there will be some enrichment programmes run throughout this time for our junior students involving guest speakers and sessions led by our senior students not involved in Wananga Days.
