One of the bigger groups in recent years took part in this year’s 13PED Triathlon (and duathlon), at Aramoana this week.

33 students took to the line to put their term’s training to the test in a super sprint triathlon (or duathlon option); consisting of a 300m swim, 10km cycle and 3km run. In relatively warm and calm conditions, the students performed very well. The majority of those participating achieving the 4 NCEA credits on offer.

Results:

Triathlon - 1st Max MacLachlan,  2nd Fergus Oberlin-Brown,  3rd Jaxon Maze

Duathlon - 1st Luke Marsh,   2nd Tepuretu Piri,   3rd Brodie McLew

The students are completing reports related to the triathlon, in class. These involve devising strategies for a physical activity outcome and evaluating the effectiveness of the 8-week training programme. Next term they will also consider the health and safety issues relating to running such an event.
