Orienteering

The OBHS Orienteering team has competed in the School Summer Series and the Otago Champs over Term 1.

In orienteering there are different courses that you can do, each one with a different difficulty, White being the easiest, Yellow, Orange and Red the most difficult.

In the first Summer Series event at Kaikorai Valley College, Tyler Douglas came 4th place in the White course only a few seconds off 3rd and in the Orange course Henry Hodgson came 1st by just over 3 minutes. At the second event in Ross Creek, due to lack of numbers the team wasn’t as successful with the best placing by Henry Hodgson coming in 5th on the Orange course. The third event was in Ocean Grove where Sam Hobbs won the Orange course by 5 minutes. The last event was in Waiora and Henry Hodgson won the Orange course by 11 minutes. Henry Hodgson won the overall Summer Series for the junior competition and Thomas Thurlow came third in the senior competition.

The team then headed out to Middlemarch for the Otago Champs to run a course mapped by OBHS old boy Luke Geddes. Chris McArthur came 2nd in the junior Yellow course. Henry Hodgson came 1st and Sam Hobbs came 3rd in the junior Orange course. Thomas Thurlow came 2nd in the senior Orange course. Some great results to finish off the term!
