McIndoe House leadership team

It is with pleasure that we introduce the Leadership team for McIndoe House for 2024.

In October last year, expressions of interest were sought from Year 12 students. We received a number of really strong applications and we look forward to the energy and enthusiasm that they will bring.

Leader of McIndoe House - Gus Workman

Gus already made an impression on us on the Year 8 welcome evening way back 2019. We remember saying “With an attitude like that, he could be House Captain one day”. This ignited a fire in the young Gus who set out to achieve this goal over the next five years. Gus is a well regarded member of McIndoe house, who has wide appeal amongst the boys and always has an ear for other people. He is skilled at listening to the mood of the house and is able to inspire them when needed. He will make an excellent House captain this year.

Deputy Leaders - Jonathan King and Ruban McGregor

Johnathon King is a humble and self-effacing future leader. He is a mature young man who can connect with lots of boys being a hostel boy and active in a number of sports at OBHS. A great listener, Jonathan has a willingness to engage with others and easily commands their respect.

Ruban McGregor’s application focussed on how to bring back house spirit. He impressed us as someone who was particularly interested in pulling the younger boys in to the fold. A confident positive role model, Ruban is able to talk to boys from all walks of life.

Sports Leaders and Chant meisters - Jackson Hughan and Tom Miller

When it came to appointing these roles we were so overwhelmed by the calibre of applications that for the first time in McIndoe House we decided to create a team to lead this area. Stand out applicants were Jackson and Tom who not only have a myriad of sporting skills but who have also both embraced the concept of “hand up, not out” by giving back through coaching and mentoring of younger students and charity work in the community. They are both all round good blokes.

These two boys lead a team comprising of the following boys:

Archie Colquhoun - a kind and positive young man who is keen to build passion in McIndoe.

Zak Nagdee - an approachable young man who is always there for others.

Hayden Drummond - a personable young man who wants to introduce an element of fun.

Zain Kanifani - an enthusiastic young man who lives and breathes McIndoe House.

Cultural Leaders - Tamati Taylor and Micah Puni

Tamati Taylor has been promoted to this role a year early. A year 12 boy who is passionate about his cultural background, Tamati worked closely with the Haka leaders last year and brought many great suggestions during our practices. He will capably guide us through our preparations for the Haka Competition later in the year and is keen to mentor younger students to follow in his footsteps.

Micha Puni is a proud Pasifika student who has a quiet and humble leadership style. He will ably guide us through the various Pasifika language weeks and is capable and committed to  educating the other boys in the house and increasing their cultural knowledge.

Service Leader - Flynn Wilson

Flynn is an outstanding young man who embodies two of the best qualities a leader can have. He listens and wants to develop others. A participant in the “Blake Inspire” leadership programme, Flynn is keen to build a community spirit in the house. Flynn has no end of volunteering experience and he will lead a service team comprising of:

Lachie Hall - a passionate and engaged OBs man who is keen to incentivise others.

Tom Hayman - driven to succeed, Tom has a number of great ideas for giving service.

Max McLachlan - already involved in giving back much to OBHS, Max will thrive in this team.

Leader of House Singing - Lachie Hall

Lachie is already a great performer on stage, having set himself the goal last year to build his confidence in this area. After a very successful run as the lead role in last years joint OGHS/OBHS School Production, Lachie has the musical background and passion required to get the boys in McIndoe House singing their hearts out later this year in the School Song competition. He will be ably assisted by Year 12 boy Oliver MacKenzie who played a key role when practicing last year and who brings his talent on piano to the job.
