Ruie Hyslop was our only attendee at this year’s South Island Secondary Schools’ Triathlon Championships, in Oamaru.
With a better representation of Christchurch schools than in previous years the competition was strong.
Ruie continued his fine form with another podium finish, claiming bronze in the U-19 boys race. Ruie’s characteristically strong run put pay to any athletes attempting to catch him and enabled him to take 30 seconds out of the two front-runners. Unfortunately, he ran out of road, finishing just over a minute behind the lead two.
Ruie’s focus now moves to the National Secondary Schools’ Champs in Tauranga. He will be supported at this event by Henry Hodgson, who will race in the juniors.
