Over the Christmas holidays there has been various athletics meets that a number of OBHS boys have been involved in.
The Classic meets in
Timaru, Napier, Wanganui and Wellington, plus the Intercentre meet in
Invercargill.
Liam Turner and Taine Te Whata were invited to join the Classic's tour in the North Island. This is for young athletes with potential who are selected by the NZ selectors. It involves three meets while on a ten day camp with twenty other athletes from through-out the country. This programme has been running for the past five years and it is very special to be invited. Both boys did very well at the meets in Napier - Potts Classic, Wanganui - Cook Classic and Wellington - Cook Classic.
Liam was involved in the 400m and 800m. Liam won the handicap 400m in Wanganui for all men including senior! and won the B grade 800m in Wellington.
Taine was competing in the Shot Put, Discus, Javelin and Long Jump and was placed through-out the meets.
Very good efforts by these boys who got to run with Nic Willis and compete with the likes of Jacko Gill.
Liam, Taine and Matt Ogle competed in the Lovelock Classic in Timaru.
Liam, Taine, Matt, Cameron Millar and Nathan Hill competed in the Intercentre event in Invercargill.
The National Rankings are out for 2016 following the above meets.
The rankings in the Under 18 are:
Liam - 2nd in 400m and 5th in 800m
Taine - 3rd in Shot Put and Discus
Matt - 3rd in 400m
Nathan - 3rd in 1500m
Cameron - 13th in Discus
