A message from the Deputy Rector

This week we celebrate our first full week back at school. Students have settled back into the routine of school life and those extra hours of playtime are now filled with new activity. It is really encouraging to see particularly our Junior students, taking up the challenge to get involved.

We believe involvement and being engaged in school life both in and outside the classroom is ‘best for boys’. Active, involved, and engaged boys, experience a greater sense of achievement and satisfaction in life and are less likely to drift toward mischief. Well done boys for getting involved. We look forward to sharing in your growth and successes throughout this term.

Our Year 10 students are enjoying the challenge of camping at Mount Aspiring. Being away from civilisation and more importantly, the distraction of technology, will provide these young men with a timely check point in their lives. Not only will they be physically challenged, but mentally and emotionally they will be stretched as well. I’m sure they will have plenty of stories to tell and in doing so be able to reflect on their personal direction in life and what really matters.

The first of our summer traditional sports exchanges got underway this week. We hosted Timaru Boys’ High School. All games were played in fine spirit and all teams represented their schools well. We competed in Cricket, Tennis and Touch Rugby. Our 1st Xl and Junior Colts cricket sides won their matches along with Touch Rugby having a clean sweep of their games. Our young Tennis teams were outclassed by a strong Timaru side, but enjoyed the use of our new tennis court facilities.

Well done boys for representing the school so well. Thank you staff and parents for facilitating what was a very good first sports exchange. We will host Waitaki Boys’ High School next week. I wish all involved in this exchange the very best and ask they continue to set high standards on and off the field.

I look forward to meeting the Year 9 parent’s next week at our Junior Parent Evening - 6:30-8pm Wednesday, 24th February. This will be an opportunity for you to connect with your sons subject teachers and ask any questions or queries regarding his studies so far.
