1st XI Captain Taine Bayly has received the honour of a letter from the Governor General, Sir Jerry Mateparae, inviting him to play in the Governor General's Youth XI team this weekend
The team will play a past New Zealand XI at the Willows Cricket Club in Christchurch this coming Sunday, 20 March.
The evening prior Taine will participate in a dinner held in the presence of Sir Jerry, where Taine has been asked to give a toast to cricket and speak about what the sport means for him. Taine is the only player from Otago and Southland in the Youth XI with other players from Canterbury, New Plymouth and Timaru. Last year, another of our 1st XI players, Blake Buttar-Scurr, was a member of the Willows XI team selected to tour Sri Lanka.
OBHS is lucky to have an association with the Willows Cricket Club, which was established to encourage development of secondary school boys' cricket in New Zealand.
