The Russell McVeagh Regional Debate Competition is an annual contest held at and organised by the University of Otago. Schools from all around Otago and Southland come together for a debating tournament spanning two days and seven debates.
This year Otago Boys’ had two senior teams pit their skills against their counterparts from other schools. Tom Sharp, Robbie Lindsay, James Williamson, Ryan Lau, Blair Duthie, Riley Jellyman, Lochie O’Sullivan and Henry Fry all put in a great collective effort to test the mettle of their opposition during their debates, with notable wins coming against Kavanagh College and James Hargest College.
Both teams battled well and despite the mixed success all agree that the experience was valuable and should put them in good stead for the schools competition which has just kicked off.
