A group of our students accompanied kaumatua, and veterans, David Ellison and Bob Tikao, to the Dawn Service on Anzac Day.
Their busy morning continued with visits to Toitu Museum, Araiteuru Marae (where they performed a waiata tautoko), and then on to a poppy laying service at Anderson Bay Cemetery.
Mr Ellison, the upoko of Kāti Huirapa Rūnaka, has a special connection with OBHS as his father was an Old Boy. This was great opportunity for our boys to both pay their respects and support our kaumatua on this special day, and we are proud of their commitment to support Te Whānau Aronui and the wider Māori community, especially during the school holidays.
