Year 12 student Ewan Syme is one step closer to reaching his dream – to race at the Olympics!
Over the holidays Ewan won the National Under 17 Road Cycling Championships held in Alexandra.
With a field of 40 – 50 top New Zealand riders Ewan said the win was unexpected. He said, “It is great to have been in a very different Under 17 race where riders were really willing to give it a go. The race seemed to unfold nicely, with a few attacks going up the road but I knew we had strong riders in the bunch that would chase so I wasn’t worried. I was feeling confident it would come to a bunch sprint but I was keeping near the front on the hill, staying handy in case anyone tried to attack.”
This caps off a great season with support coming from so many people to make this possible.
Well done Ewan!
