Nathan Briggs and Nathan Hill were invited to present their science projects to Sir Jerry Mateparae, Governor General, on his recent visit to Otago.
The boys have been collecting sediments at sample sites around the Otago Harbour, and along with Sean Woo, Finn Spencer, Thivindu Pallawalla, Mohammad Taha, Thomas Woodfield, Mitchell Walshaw and Sam Adler, are correlating seashore life with sediment collection sites to look for evidence of dredge sediment effects on biodiversity in the harbour.
Nathan and Nathan profiled their science work to the Governor General in the "Lab in a Box", Associate Professor Peter Dearden's project, that allows students to study sciences in special places. The "Lab in a Box" was also present at the Otakou Marae during the Science Wananga that our students attended late last week.
The Governor General is particularly interested in projects whereby students are linking their skills to environmental and conservation issues like Nathan and Nathan's project.
