Last Saturday Otago Boys' High School hosted the annual Otago/Southland Chess Championships. Eight teams took part, of which three were from Otago Boys’.
The OBHS Year 13 team was a late inclusion into the tournament. After the round robin event the OBHS "A team" were unbeaten and easily won the event.
Naser Tamimi, Riley Jellyman, Joseph McKee and Sean Lau played a high standard of chess throughout and have now qualified for the South Island and National events later in the year.
The OBHS "B team" (Taine Box, Max Lough, Ryan and Ethan Lau) were only beaten by our A team and did well to finish second and also qualified for the South Island Champs.
Our Year 13 team were just pipped for third position by Logan Park High School.
