Congratulations to Sam Kilsby who won the National Untouched World Charitable Trust Project U Leadership Award in Christchurch on Saturday night.
Untouched World Charitable Trust run a range of events around the country, including the Waterwise Otago environmental leadership programme, which Sam took part in late last year.
Following this programme, Sam was one of four people nationwide asked to pitch to the Trust Board for seed funding for an environmental project. Sam won though on the night, and received $1,500 which will go towards a feasibility study into how the OBHS Mt Aspiring Lodge can be energy self sufficient and sustainable.
This could see the existing diesel generator replaced with potentially a solar or micro-hydro system. The lodge could also become a teaching centre around sustainable practise and alternative energy, putting the school at the leading edge of sustainability education.
