A Message From The Rector

NCEA examination began on Wednesday. I am pleased with the number of students who have taken advantage of the opportunity to avail themselves of expert tips from senior teachers. I encourage all senior students next week to continue the trend.

For junior boys the examinations this week were a true test of the years work. I look forward in the coming days to reading their reports and marks. We are not finished though; I am very keen for our community to understand that the academic year is not over. I would love to hear from parents of junior students if they feel that their son does not have a full academic programme right up until the last day.

Excitingly for us our new intake of Year 9 students, all 185 of them will be with us next Friday. This number and more importantly the quality is very pleasing. I am confident we have also (at 23) been able to keep our class numbers the lowest of any state boys' school in the country.At the moment I am busily interviewing new teachers for positions here in 2017. I want to take this opportunity to mention two long-serving staff who will be moving on next year. Mr Andrew King has won the position of Assistant Principal at Tokomairiro High School and Mr Warwick Kane who will be the new Head of Physical Education at Logan Park High School. Both men have contributed an enormous amount to our school. As a school leader I have followed the mantra, "When your green you grow; when you are ripe you rot". This means that I want staff who are ambitious and want to push themselves onto the next step. It benefits us all. I am sure the parent community will join with me in wishing them the best.
