This week you may have seen an item on 1 News that highlighted an issue around drugs in sport. Because our school had hosted a workshop by Drugfree Sport New Zealand we were chosen to be on television.
This topic is one that is very real for many athletes and those in their teenage years are very susceptible to advertising and messages that portray supplements and such as necessary for high performance.
I am not an expert in these things, but what I found refreshing about this presentation was the idea that you don't need to be all knowing, rather you can support your son by becoming informed. If you have a young man who is looking at becoming a high performance athlete, or he is simply looking at these kinds of products I urge you as parents to go to http://drugfreesport.org.nz/ Of particular use is the text number.
Often it isn't the intention to do damage, rather than lack of access to good independent advice.
