Over the weekend of the 25th and 26th of March, the OBHS 1st Touch Team attended the SISS tournament held in Christchurch.
Played over two days in less than ideal conditions, the boys performed admirably. After beating SBHS in our opening game we faltered against Papanui and Nelson before beating St Thomas's in the final game of pool play. Unfortunately this was not enough to see us make the top four. We missed out narrowly on a countback to SBHS even though we had beaten them earlier in the day.
Sideways rain and moderate winds made our 1st game of day two very difficult. Going down to Marlborough Boys' College meant we had to beat Shirley Boys' to get seventh place. We did this comfortably to end our tournament on high.
This years squad was the youngest we have taken to Tournament. Well led by Jacob Alderson, the youngsters quickly settled into the rhythm and made significant contributions on the field. This is promising for the future of touch at OBHS.
Finally, A big thank you to coach Matt Brown and manager Andrea Faulks. They have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to give the boys the best chances of success. Their knowledge and expertise around tournament play has been invaluable to this team and we at OBHS greatly appreciate their efforts.
