Maadi Medal Drought Finally Broken For OBHS!

Fifteen young men represented OBHS at the 2017 Aon Maadi cup at Lake Karapiro.

After months of dedicated training they have been richly rewarded when the Under 16 Quad of Sam Moore, Thomas Ryan, Jack Holland-Spinks, Michael Manson and coxswain Tate Drummond won a bronze medal. The first Maadi medal in 5 years.

Never a crew to take the easy route, their pathway to finals was slightly halted when in their semi-final they had to overcome a disastrous start to qualify in the top four. Pure guts and tenancity, the hallmarks of a OB's boy, meant they dug deep and went on to glory, even breaking the record in their 3rd place.

Our Under 15 crew kept our supporters elated as they won 2 of their B finals with times that would have seen them be 5th in an A final.

A fantastic effort from all our novice rowers, considering this was the youngest squad ever to attend Maadi and to achieve such high results, the future of rowing at OBHS is very very exciting.

Head Coach, Jamie Mckenzie managed 15 boys through 29 races over 5 days with patience, persistence and professionalism. He has made a huge impact on these boys which will be lifelong. We are all so incredibly proud of our rowers and look forward to many more successful seasons ahead.
