Cycling Otago has a proud history of producing Olympians and internationally ranked riders. We currently have a number of students here at Otago Boys' High School involved in the club.
To build support for these younger cyclists (and any students interested in taking the sport up), Cycling Otago is launching a new Youth Development Academy. All school aged cyclists are invited to join this new initiative, which will include a coach allocated to the Under 13, Under 15, and Under 17 age groups, as well as a programme of training, supported rides, mentoring and specialised advice to underpin the ongoing developmental needs of the younger rider.
The Academy is hosting a registration and launch meeting on 14 May at 2pm at the clubrooms (Seddon Park Velodrome, Mosgiel). On the 14th, they will provide more details on the Youth Development Academy, and riders can meet the coaches and have the opportunity to ask questions about the programme.
They would love parents, and of course the young riders themselves, to come on board and become foundation members of what they envisage will be an integral part of Cycling Otago's future!
