This morning four of our junior students: Xavier Hill, Eli Ellison, Stanley Moko and Vini Nika had the opportunity to attend a talk and performance by renowned New Zealand poet, Glenn Colquhoun at the Dunedin Public Library as part of the Dunedin Writers and Readers Festival.
Mr Colquhoun talked to the students about the stories which make up our histories, focusing on the rich oral tradition of Maori culture and moving into his works which recognise the plights and adventures of many of our country's unsung battlers and adventurers from early days.
Our boys were buzzing after having had the chance to talk with Mr Colquhoun at the end of his session. His advice to them, and his audience was profound:
"Know your own stories, know your own creativities. We all have them."
