2017 OBHS Class Act

Congratulations to Max Chu and Samuel Jones, the OBHS 2017 Class Act recipients.
On Thursday Max and Samuel's outstanding achievements were recognised along with fifty four other Year 13 students from throughout Otago at the Otago Daily Times Class Act awards ceremony held at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery. The awards which include a University of Otago Leaders of Tomorrow scholarship were presented by Prime Minister Bill English.
Max Chu
Achievements: OBHS head prefect (2017; New Zealand under 19 World Cup cricket winter squad (2017); OBHS 1st XI captain(2017); NCEA level 1 and 2 endorsed with excellence (2015-2016); OBHS 1st XI (2014-2017); member of OBHS 1st XI national finalist team (2015-2017); member of Willows Cricket Club tour to Sri Lanka (2017); helped Cricketlive Foundation in Sri Lanka (2017); four day Plunket Shield Otago Volts' traiallist (2017); OBHS futsal captain (2015-2017); OBHS social basketball (2016-2017); Otago Champs futsal competition (2015-2016); fourth in national futsal tournament (2016); under 19 southern futsal team (2016); placed second in under 19 futsal nationals (2016); invited to southern men's futsal training (2016); one day Ford Trophy Otago Volts' triallist (2016); second highest run scorer at national cricket finals (2016); Otago under 19 national champs for Otago (2016); Otago team of the year nominee (2016-2017 awards); New Zealand cricket under 18 team (2016); selected for national under 19 tournament (2016); played at national "A" cricket tournament in Lincoln (2017); Otago under 17 cricket team (2015-2017); club level 1st grade for Carisbrook Dunedin (2014-2017); runner up 1st grade Dunedin cricket player of the year (2015-2016); shave for a cure (2017); year 9 peer reading tutor (2017); member of second place 1st XI South Island team at nationals (2015); Otago champs (2016); OBHS cricket team coach (2015-2017); completed CACT coaching course (2015).
Role model: People who are reliable and honest.
Hopes for the future: Playing professional cricket and studying statistics and psychology.
Samuel Jones
Achievements: Academic prefect (2017); academic prefect tutorial leader (2017); NCEA scholarship history (2016); top in English, history, second in biology, physics OBHS (2016); Hands-on-Science at the University of Otago (2016); under 17 Dunedin metro cricket (2016); top in English, science, geography, history, mathematics OBHS (2015); OBHS junior dux (2014); top 200 in University of Otago junior mathematics competition (2015); OBHS junior national tournament cricket team (2014); under 14 Otago metro rugby (2014); top of English, science and social studies OBHS (2014); under 15 Dunedin metro cricket (2014-2015); under 15 Otago metro cricket (2014); OBHS Second XI cricket (2015, 2017); OBHS under 15 blues rugby (2015); distinction in University of New South Wales mathematics competition (2013-2014); distinction in University of New South Wales science competition (2013-2014); distinction in Australian mathematics competition (2013-2014); OBHS junior leadership award (2014); Crest bronze award (2013); OBHS under 14 blues rugby (2013); OBHS year 9 blues cricket (2013); OBHS Gate programme (2013); academic junior scholarship (2013).

Hopes for the future: To study either health science at the University of Otago or engineering at the University of Canterbury.
