On Sunday 5 November, the Otago Boys' rowing squad attended the Otago Secondary Schools Erg championships.

The squad of 33 boys contested the 2000m, 1000m, 500m and 100m categories, with some great results. Ben Mason had a good day for the U17 age group claiming 2nd in the 2000m, 2nd in the 500m and 2nd in the 100m. Oliver Haig was a stand out performer in the U16 section winning the 2000m, the 500m and the 100m races.

Top achievements were reached in the junior categories where Jono Burnside convincingly won both the Novice 2000m and the 500m. Freddie Pankhurst placed 1st in all U15 events. Samuel Moore scored a noteworthy win in the U17 100m and 3rd in the 500m.

The Otago Boys' team of Ben Mason, Sam Moore, Oliver Haig and Freddie Pankhurst won the boys team trophy in convincing fashion, from key rivals John McGlashan College.

The coaching team were impressed with the strong performance from the team and results that reflect the current strong position of Otago Boys' Rowing. We are looking forward to continued success in future rowing regattas from the boys.
