Last Saturday, at Bishopscourt, our OBHS 1st Touch Team, ably led by Jordan Hand and Sam Rowe competed at the Otago Secondary Schools competition.
In what turned out to be a marvelous day, the team won the competition for the first time in the school's history.
Playing King's High School in the final, the team started magnificently with a Reuben Wairau touchdown after only 11 seconds. Another two tries before the break had us narrowly ahead at half time 3-2.
A stirling defensive effort in the second half restricted King's High School to only one more try while we scored two more resulting in a 5-3 victory.
The game was very physical, with both teams out to make statements prior to the South Islands over the weekend of the 24th and 25th of March. We will enter that tournament as top qualifier from Otago.
