10G embarked on camp on the 2nd of March, not knowing what was coming, but boy, we were in for something to be remembered for a long time.
Arriving at the camp, after a long walk, we unloaded food and packs, met with cabin members and prepared for the week ahead. Saturday we went kayaking, through white, rapid waters, then after did some jumps off the rocks to end the great day. Sunday we went on a long, tiring walk up to view the Rob Roy glacier, in pouring down rain, which wasn't enjoyable at the time but the view to the glacier was spectacular! Monday was a quiet day as we had staff changing positions as Mr McGarry left with Ms Moore back to Dunedin, being replaced by Mr Willmott and Mrs Casey. A few friends and I worked on building a dam through the day getting it to about waist deep which was pretty cool!
Tuesday we had a go at rogaining which was similar to orienteering that was really fun. My group managed to place second and win a Freddo Frog, which was good as my snack stash was bare by Tuesday. In the afternoon we started to prepare for the overnight camp by trying to cook on portable cookers and pitching tents. On Wednesday we left for the overnight, which I knew would be the highlight of the trip.
We went on a hour and a half walk through the rolling hills and long flats but when we arrived it was pristine, the sun shining and water sparkling. We pitched our tents, cooked dinner and got firewood for the night ahead. On Thursday we returned to the camp to prepare to leave in the morning, after packing we went for an afternoon trip to the breathtaking Wishbone Falls for a dip and a few bombs, I didn't go but from what I heard it was awesome! The next morning we cleaned up the lodge, put our packs on the trailer and started to walk back to the bus stop. Jumping on the bus to travel home, I glanced at the class arriving and smiled knowing that they would enjoy it just as much as I did.
Thanks 10G for an awesome trip!
