Sport keeps School House busy
After a very warm term one and holiday period the ice on the windscreen Monday morning came as bit of a shock and there were some chilly School House boys walking to school. After a brisk walk and a hot lunch (meatballs with pasta) the boys soon warmed up, however, and were in good spirits to start the school week.
Yesterday, many of the boys were involved in the Kings inter school exchange. I traveled down to watch much of the rugby and football, and it was pleasing to see so many hostel boys involved. It was also, great to see so many hostel parents on the sidelines supporting their son(s). The rector often makes the comment that there are generally more hostel parents than day boys watching the various sports, not only for mid-week fixtures like this, but also on Saturday mornings.
On Sunday our shooters traveled to Invercargill to be part of the Invercargill Inter Collegiate shoot, which consisted of 75 targets over 4 matches. Coach Ernie was very happy with the behaviour of the boys and their shooting ability. The days scores were of a very high standard, and a credit to the young shooters. Tate Drummond came 5th in the senior division and Henry Sim 2nd and Nick Sim 3rd in the juniors. Well done boys! Also, congratulations to Nic Sinnott for winning a full scholarship to attend the Youth Australia New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science (ANZAAS) forum in Melbourne. This is a huge accolade for Nic and School House is very proud of his achievements.
On Sunday we have our inaugural grandparents dinner. We have over forty grandparents attending and the boys are looking forward to having their grandparents in the hostel for a meal. It will also be a special occasion for the grandfathers who are old boys and have an opportunity to share a meal with their grandsons.
Next week the school takes ownership of 17 Melrose St. We are currently still in the process of gaining resource consent for the carpark that will go at the front of the existing house, as well as the new entrance way which will be between the Hawthorne dorm and the dining hall. It is a slow process, but we are getting there. It will certainly improve the appearance of School House!
I hope everyone has a great week and an enjoyable weekend, keep warm!
