At the end of last term, 4 boys and myself set off for Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama for an 18 day trip of a lifetime.
We were accompanied by almost 30 others from other schools in Christchurch and one student and teacher from Logan Park. From there, after our 20-odd hours of flying and one day layover in Dallas, Texas, we arrived at Space Camp. We spent a week building model rockets, scuba diving, learning space history, adventuring into high ropes courses and eating from a cafeteria full of classic American food.
Once we had graduated from Space Camp, our next journey began. We flew, via Atlanta, to Orlando, Florida! We spent our last week in the states at Disneyland, Gatorland, a local school with a roll of 4000 students, the Kennedy Space Center and other parts of Orlando.
I always get asked if this trip was worth it, because it really was expensive and took me about 2 years to fund raise for. My answer will always be yes. Not just because of the experiences and memories I have made, but also the people I got to meet along the way. I had the time of my life and would 10/10 recommend anyone to make the most out of these sorts of opportunities at Otago Boys’.
