Congratulations to Year 11 student, Peter Crosson, a Friday Voice class student at OBHS.
Peter competed in his first solo classical singing competitions over the last two weekends. In the Green Island Performing Arts Competitions, Peter gained a 1st in the Novice and a 3rd in the Recital (two songs sung as a recital with introductions). The adjudicator commented from the stage that even though Peter didn't win the Recital, his second song, The Vagabond by Ralph Vaughan Williams, gained the highest mark of all the songs in the class. He really hit his stride with this song and delivered something quite special. Peter was then named in the prize list as the Most Improved Singer across all age groups and competitors in the festival. He then went on to be Commended (4th place) in the Years 11-13 class of the NEWZATS Otago Aparima Awards, at Otago University's Marama Hall, competing against older more experienced singers in this prestigious competition.
What a wonderful start in the world of classical singing for this very promising 15 year old singer. Peter is photographed at the Steinway, on which he was accompanied by OBHS old boy Richard Warnock at Marama Hall, with his trophies from Green Island and Aparima certificate.
