Mountain biking has been underway since the beginning of the term. While the weather has not been great, it has not limited the tracks we have ridden too much.
Since starting we have been able to experience riding Signal Hill, Bethunes Gully, Whare Flat, Nichols Creek and the Wakari Creek tracks. Targeting the South Island Schools’ Mountain Biking Champs later in the year, the group did a time trial (endure style) yesterday, in preparation.
Riding up to the top hub in Wakari Creek the group first did a reconnaissance down the advanced Holler Coaster track. They then rode back up to the top where they organised themselves into riding ability (#number below), slowest off first, at one-minute intervals to race down. No one was able to bridge the gap to the rider in front but there were some slick times.
After all sorts of excuses of falls and catching handle bars on trees etc. the following results were recorded:
