Last week a group of our Pasifika students attended a University of Otago program run by the Pacific Island Centre and the Division of Science.
The Dare to Succeed initiative gave our students the opportunity to experience a day in a life of a Uni student and informed them of the Tertiary Science options at Otago.
Students attended hands on science workshops in the morning where they rubbed shoulders with post graduate students and lecturers. In the afternoon they were presented with information about the structure of a science degree, science careers and pathways as well as information about scholarships available to our Pasifika students.
Our students came away enjoying a productive and informative day at the University of Otago.
Jackson Aluisi:
"It was a good experience to see what sciences are on offer at Otago. Experiencing a lecture was one of my highlights and listening to present Pasifika students at uni studying science was good...Being able to do some hands-on stuff in the bio and physics labs made the day enjoyable and interesting!"
Ratu Fosita:
"It was great because I got to experience the lectures and do a science experiment about the honey, and I also met a lot of people from other schools."
