Outdoor Ed Ski Assessment Trip

By Brent Matehaere | Posted: Thursday August 23, 2018

12/13 Outdoor Ed travelled to Coronet Peak to develop snow skills in order to be assessed against NCEA Level 3 standards.

The boys were led by Mr Matehaere, Mr Willmott, Mr Brown and student teacher Miss Wilson where they stayed on the mountain at the Otago Ski Club. All attending went through daily lessons to start the day, following these we were let loose on the mountain to explore the various levels of runs available. As the days went on there were huge improvements made by all the beginners and intermediate skiers and boarders. Those at the elite level were challenged by each other, culminating in the highlight of day 3 where Max Watt, Bruno Ahmet and Carlin Baumgartner absolutely “sent it” down “The Hurdle” in an impromptu race. Assessments were completed on day 4 where all those on the mountain achieved and many to an Excellence level. We would like to thank the OBHS Hostel for assisting with catering, the food was plentiful and tasty.
