Congratulations to Nathan Hill and Sean Woo, the OBHS 2018 Class Act recipients.
On Thursday Nathan and Sean's outstanding achievements were recognised along with fifty three other Year 13 students from throughout Otago at the Otago Daily Times Class Act awards ceremony held at the Otago Museum Hutton Theatre. The awards were presented by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
Nathan Hill
Achievements: Academic prefect (2018); junior dux (2015); NCEA level 1 and 2 with excellence; NCEA level 3 calculus (2017); 1st in class for art and biology (2017); 2nd in class chemistry (2017); Otago Science and Technology Fair awards (2015, 2016, 2018); Oceania Athletics Championships 1500m and 3000m silver medallist (2017); NZ Secondary Schools Athletics junior 1500m bronze medallist (2015); NZ U20 1500m finalist (2018); SI Secondary Schools Athletics 3000m gold medallist and 1500m silver medallist (2018); Otago senior men's 1500m and 3000m champion (2018); Otago Secondary Schools Athletics senior boys 800m, 1500m and 3000m champion (2018); school athletics captain (2018); Logan Park Road Race Champion (2016-18); school cross country champion (2018); South Island and Otago secondary school teams triathlon winner (2017).
Role model: Sir Roger Bannister.
Hopes for the future: To study health sciences and see where his running takes him.
Sean Woo
Achievements: NCEA level 1, 2 and 3 with excellence; 100-level maths (2017); 200-level maths
(2018); NZ Math Olympiad very highly commended (2017); 2nd Otago O'Mathlon senior (2017); NZ Biology Olympiad bronze award (2017); five Otago Science and Technology Fair awards (2016); arts prefect (2018); school pianist (2016-2018); Dunedin Performing Arts Society U16 Romantic/Classical piano competition very highly commended (2017), U16 Baroque piano competition highly commended (2017); school orchestra violin (2014-2018), leader (2017, 2018); Otago Chamber Music Contest adjudicator's award (2017), finalist (2018); school choir baritone (2016-2018); school production (2015-2017); school string ensemble (2014-2017); UN youth ambassador (2015, 2016); school council (2016, 2018).
Role models: My grandmother and Beethoven.
Hopes for the future: To become a surgeon.
