Last week saw the culmination of Friday and Saturday basketball for all of the school teams.
What lies ahead are the Junior and Senior South Island tournaments in Nelson and Invercargill. These run consecutively and therefore Mr Matehaere and referee Angus Henderson will be travelling close to 1000km in under 24 hours.
Both teams should head into these tournaments with some confidence as the senior Blue team won the local competition against Waitaki Boys' 96 - 77 and then winning the Men's A reserve and Men's B grade competitions the following day.
In the Junior divisions the Year 10 A team finished the season with a convincing win over St Kevin's and the Year 9 A team were crowned Year 9 Champions for 2018. In the Junior C grade the Year 9 B team turned a 70 point defeat at the start of the season into a victory in the final against a King's Year 10 side. A huge improvement over the course of the year.
A big thank you must go out to all the parents and supporters that helped organise the 21 other teams that represented the school in Friday night basketball. While many efforts will go unnoticed it is these people that keep the wheels rolling for the 160 boys enjoying a fun run around on the boards each Friday.
