Checkmate to OBHS for the Third Year in Succession

On Wednesday, the school A chess team of Max Lough, Ryan Lau, Ethan Lau and Louie Llanos convincingly continued their grip on the South Island Chess title in Ashburton.

Starting with four nil wins over Christchurch Boys', St Bede's and Burnside the other schools had to play catch up. A two all draw with local favourites Ashburton College meant that only one win was required against local rivals, Logan Park. This was duly achieved and the team finished seven points clear of the second placed team.

The A team, along with a younger OBHS B team now look forward to the National Championships at the start of the next holidays.

PS. Congratulations to the Balmacewen team who won the Intermediate Schools' section by the same margin.
