Over the recent Labour weekend, approximately 80 divers from around New Zealand competed in the Diving New Zealand National Skills Competition held in Auckland.
Eight divers from Dunedin’s Diving Ōtākou competed. Rohan Leckie-Zaharic (9T) represented Otago in all three of the Interage Group B (14-15 years) Boys events. He was the youngest competitor in each event.
Rohan won gold in the Platform event, with two dives off the 7.5 metre platform and 4 dives from the 5 metre platform, including the crowd-pleasing Forward 1 ½ Somersaults 1 twist. He won silver on the 3 metre board, competing 7 dives and bronze on the 1 metre board where he competed 7 dives, including the impressive Forward Double Somersault. He also teamed up with Emir Erkinov (Balmacewen Intermediate) to compete in the 3 metre Synchronised event where they placed fourth.
