Our 29 year 9 hostel boys set off to Mt Aspiring Lodge last weekend. Heading away straight after the athletic sports on Thursday made for a long tiring day, as it was after dark by the time we were all set up at the Lodge.
On Friday the boys started on their group challenge activities in the morning, getting to know each other and testing out teamwork skills at the same time. In the afternoon we walked over to Wishbone Falls for a swim and the keen fishermen tried unsuccessfully to land their supper on the walk back.
On Saturday the groups battled it out in volleyball and Frisbee golf in the morning then spent the afternoon moving tonnes of rock around in MacPherson Creek in the challenge for the best dam, and finishing the competitive day with a quiz in the evening.
After a thorough clean-up we were on the road about 11:30am and arrived back at the hostel at 5pm. A big “thank you” to our year 13 helpers Sam, Angus and Ryan for their efforts and great role-modelling, and to Senna and fellow staff for what turned out to be another very successful trip. All the boys have learned a great deal about themselves and each other and have formed friendships which are sure to last for many years.
