OBHS hosted an invitational tournament over the weekend. King's High Senior A, and Central Southland College were invited to play our Senior Blue and Senior White teams.
It was a great day of volleyball with our teams getting much needed game time before heading away to the Senior South Islands this Friday.
Our Blues came away with 3 wins from 3 games, only dropping one set to King's in the morning. They played without some key players so there was a scramble, initially, to put a quality team together. Fortunately, everyone stepped up, in particular Adrian Branzuela who had a strong passing game, and Angus Henderson who was unstoppable all day through the middle. Solid serving from Jacob Whitty and Peter Keenan ensured that the opposition were always on the back foot. Contributions from Nick Sharp on the outside and Masyn Opetaia on the opposite gave our attack consistency and power. Noah Rooney controlled the game well with his precise setting and scrambled saves. Overall, the Blues should be pleased with how they played.
Our Whites also had a productive day with much of the team being Year 11. The game time was needed to adjust to the speed of the Senior game. Siosifa Pole and Patrick Pereira controlled the game well as setters. Matthew Sims and Inoke Katia worked tirelessly in the backcourt, Cody Watt and Eli Ellison were menacing in the middle and Kilifi Uele was the anchor on attack. The Whites were able to push King's and CSC in their games, showing good scramble as well as fight to stay close in every set. A great experience for the young team who will enjoy more challenges ahead at the South Island Championships.
A big thank you to all the parents who came and supported their sons.
