Year 11 student Alex Warlow has been busy with athletics, but he isn't competing.
Alex became a New Zealand Athletics official early last year. For this, he had to study and sit an exam.
This summer, Alex has given up almost every Saturday, a lot of Sundays and even a few Fridays to officiate at various meets around the South Island. It is a volunteer role.
Alex has attracted many positive comments from older officials and from all accounts is doing a great job. He is trained to officiate on the track which means he gets very few breaks throughout the day as events run solidly from start to finish at any athletics meet. This also means long and sometimes hot or cold days on the track for him. It is a sport he loves and enjoys giving back to.
Great job Alex!
