Paintball and grandparents
We have had a very busy weekend in the hostel with a whole variety of activities. The weekend started with all the normal excitement around winter sport. Many of the boy’s teams had some excellent wins and the 1stXV proved to be the icing on the cake with its 65-5 demolition of John McGlashan College. Many hostel boys are attending the Southland Boys winter sport exchange on Wednesday and School House wishes all boys travelling the best of luck for these fixtures.
Sunday afternoon saw the juniors head into the bush for paintball. The boys thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon despite the muddy conditions. There were some impressive war wounds and as always, the boys spent the rest of the weekend comparing bruises. Thank you to staff member Ken Tipene for accompanying the boys on this outing, we didn’t have very many staff volunteer! This coming Sunday the seniors get their chance to go paintballing. The juniors however, have a more sedate activity; ten pin bowling.
Grandparents dinner last night was a lovely experience and was enjoyed by both the boys and grandparents. Many grandparents are very involved in their grandson’s education and life in general and the boys were eager to show their grandparents around the hostel. A big thank you to those grandparents who traveled from places as far away as the North Island just to attend the dinner.
We have the hostel photo today (weather permitting) and information on how to purchase the photo will be sent out shortly. I would encourage you to purchase a photo. When old boys return to the hostel the first thing they do is look at the photos on the wall in the dining hall. The photo is a piece of hostel history and is a wonderful souvenir of your son’s time at the hostel and at Otago Boys.
The next major hostel event is the inaugural father and son quiz night on the 23rd June. I will be sending more information out this week, but dads in the meantime, please pencil this into your diary’s.
I hope you all have a wonderful week, keep warm!
