This week, the Level 3 Earth and Space Science class visited the NZ Marine Studies Centre at Portobello.

During the trip, the boys learned how excessive Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere is being absorbed into the ocean, increasing the acidity and threatening many marine organisms. They then developed scientific investigations on an aspect of Ocean Acidification, such as the effect on crabs, sea stars and cockles, photosynthesis rates in various types of seaweed and how it may be dissolving some types of coral.

The boys showed a keen interest in the topic and produced some excellent research.
